Frequently Asked Questions
Truthful answer .... it depends. We train for self defence rather than sport. But, the most important training for self defence is learning to actually avoid any violent situation.
In the unlikely event that you would need to use your martial art skills, you will certainly be better prepared to defend youself and your family.
I can't afford time off work. Am I likely to be injured?Karate is an activity that involves a lot of physical contact and vigorous endeavour. However by use of protective equipment when appropriate and ensuring good technique and control, you are no more likely to be injured training with us than participating in any other physical activity.
Aren't I too old for such a strenuous activity? We train to the limit of our own physical abilities. The training we do will develop strength and fitness without stressing older bodies. As a result, age is really irrelevent. Many of Australia's top martial artists are in their 50s and 60s.
What is the difference between your karate style and other styles?Okinawan karate was originally a blend of Okinawan martial art called "te" and Chiness "kung fu". This gave the best of both worlds leading to a balanced blend of "hard" and "soft" and a very effective form of civilian self defence. Most schools don't teach the "soft". As a result most schools cater for strong, fit young people. Because we don't rely on strength and speed, our training is ideal for adults of all ages.
