Founded in 1997 the Lions Den Academy has become one of N.S.W leading Boxing, Kickboxing,Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and MMA/Wrestling schools.
Trainers here have trained and fought in these discplines at top level both here and abroad and are recognised by N.S.W sport and recreation with levels 1 coaching accreditation and, First Aid certified.
Our facilities include a boxing ring, speed ball, floor to ceiling ball, punching bags, olympic weights, matted wrestling area and exercise bikes.
We sell great value training equipment and clothing. We are not your usual martial arts dojo, we are experts who can offer thorough technical expertise to all level of students, from beginner to professional.
Our programs are designed for fun, weight loss, skill and strength gains, self defence, and all ages male and female. It will change your life!
Our Team Profiles
Luke started his Martial Arts training at 15 years old, he became a 3rd Dan Black Belt in Hapkido. In 1997 Luke bought the Lionâ€™s Den and began training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and is currently Brown Belt in the Will/Machado organisation. He also trained under Joe LaFerla in boxing, and received his 3rd Dan Black Belt in Pankration. Luke is undefeated in the ring in both Amateur Boxing and Pancrase MMA. He is the 2002 middleweight Pankration Australian world champion, the 2003 Extreme Fighting Championship Australian welterweight champion and placed 2nd in the Novice 2000 BJJ Pan Pacific championships, 1st Blue Belt 2001 BJJ Sydney grappling championship and boasts numerus other BJJ accolades. Luke has trained 5 State and 3 Australian Machado BJJ champions, 6 N.S.W Pankration champions, 4 Australian Pankration champions, and several fighters for amateur Kickboxing. John Will presented Luke with his Black Belt during a visit to Sydney in March 2007

The kids’ classes teaches students a bit of everything about Martial Arts. The students will get a taste of striking, wrestling and brazilian jiu jitsu and also be exposed to some light safe sparring and fitness.
The outcomes of this are not only a fitter, healthier child who is able to defend themselves if they are ever in danger but students are also taught discipline which will flow through to their lives out side of the gym as well.
Classes are taught by Luke Pezzutti.
Monday: 4:30pm (5-10 yrs old), 5:30pm (11-16 yrs old)

The Wrestling class is based off Olympic freestyle wrestling and has been modified to complement the grappling and MMA disciplines also taught at the gym. The class includes wrestling technique as well as live wrestling against other students. The class is instructed by Justin Turtle who trained at the Australian Institute of Sport and has represented Australia on many levels.
The MMA classes on Tuesday and Thursday nights also cover wrestling techniques as well.

Thursday (MMA): 7:30pmBrazilian Jiu Jitsu (Gi & No Gi)
The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu class involves grappling techniques based on ground fighting. It includes submission techniques like armlocks and leglocks as well as chokes. It will give students the understanding of the principles of leverage and body mechanics which will help them turn the tables on an opponent when they’re in a bad situation.
The classes are instructed by Luke Pezzutti who is a BJJ Black Belt under John Will.
Saturday: 10:30amMixed Martial Arts (MMA)
The Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) class will bring all the disciplines of striking, wrestling and submissions into one. The class will teach and demonstrate how to combine them effectively and seamlessly so that you can become a competent Mixed Martial Artist.
These classes are taken by a lot of our MMA fighters, but you don’t have to fight professionally to attend this class as they are suitable for all levels and good for general self defense and good for conditioning and fitness as well.
For the people who are interested in fighting, the Friday classes are reserved for live sparring. This allows students to put into practice in a live situation all they have learnt. This class requires safety equipment such as gloves, mouth guard, shin guards and groind guard and is supervised in a controlled environment to keep everyone safe.
These classes are taken by Luke Pezzutti who is a former MMA fighter and also a Welterweight Champion.
Friday: 7:00pm (Sparring)Kickboxing
Kickboxing classes combine punching with kicking as well as striking with elbows and knees. Classes are suitable for all levels.
Weekday classes are taken by Luke Pezzutti.
Tuesday: 6:00pm, 7:30pm
The boxing classes are run by Joe Laferla who excelled as an amateur boxer himself. Joe has spent most of his life boxing and his knowledge and experience is impressive. The boxing classes are suited for all levels from beginners to fighters. The classes not only focuses on the techniques but also on fitness and conditioning.
